Invisalign Q & A

What Is Invisalign?

Invisalign is a tooth-straightening system that is an alternative to traditional metal braces. Invisalign uses clear removable plastic trays that are not noticeable. You receive new trays about every two weeks to continually guide your teeth into position.

Invisalign makes trays designed for both adults and teens. You might consider this system if you have one or more of the following conditions:

  • Overbite or underbite
  • Teeth with gaps
  • Open bite
  • Teeth that are overly crowded
  • Crossbite

How Do You Take Care of Your Teeth During Treatment?

Since you can take your Invisalign trays out, an advantage of this system compared to regular braces is that you can take better care of your teeth. You can take out your Invisalign when you eat, to avoid getting food stuck, and you can also remove your Invisalign when flossing and brushing, to maintain optimal teeth helath.

You can also take care of your Invisalign trays each day by brushing them gently. You can use warm water or ask your dentist for a special solution that cleans the trays without destroying them. Good oral hygiene is simple and effective when you have Invisalign.

What Can You Eat with Invisalign?

With Invisalign, you can take the trays out for eating. That means you can eat almost anything you want. The following foods are okay with Invisalign as long as you take the trays out of your mouth when you are eating.

  • Popcorn when you go to the movies.
  • Chips when you are hanging out with your friends.
  • Apples and carrot sticks when you want a healthy snack.
  • Candy when you need a break.
